Set "Automatically apply email address policy" on Contacts created from Sharepoint
Hi! We have created a Sharepoint application that uses the Incoming E-mail functionallity to enabling sending mails into libraries in Sharepoint. Almost everything is working great. When we create a new library and e-mail enables it the contact is created but no external address is applied to it. I have created a new email address policy for these Contacts but the check box "Automatically update e-mail addresses...." is not checked so it is not applied. If I manually check it they get the correct e-mail address. If I create a new Contact in the Exchange Management Console the check box is checked. Does anyone know how to get "externally created contacts to have the "auto apply e-mail policy" check box checked?? This must be the most confused post ever... ;-)

Hi, Please understand that the Sharepoint product was written for Contact creation based on the behavior of the RUS in Exchange 2003. Working with Exchange Server 2003,when SharePoint creates a contact, the RUS (recipient update service) which runs every 5 minutes detects the new user and stamps the following 3 attributes:proxyAddresses: SMTP:aaa@aaa.co; X400:c=US;a= ;p=First Organizati;o=Exchange;s=aaa;; targetAddress: SMTP:aaa@aaa.co; mail: aaa@aaa.co <mailto:aaa@aaa.co>; We can find mail field in ADUC. Working with Exchange 2007 , we can create mail-enabled contact only through Exchange Management Console (EMC) or Exchange Management Shell .The contact created through SharePoint is directly created in Active Directory. That is not a mail-enabled contact when using Exchange Server 2007,theres no mail attribute on the contact. So the only workaround is to manually apply email address policy. Best regards, Xiu

For the record this isn't very acceptable. I've got over 10,000 contacts that are being created using an MIIS synch where that chekbox is unchecked. Obviously, manually creating the contacts, or manually checking that checkbox is not a viable solution.Anyone have anything out there?

Don't know if this will help, but we have a similar situation, and I just run the following command after the import in a Exchange Management ShellGet-MailContact -OrganizationalUnit "[OU with contacts]" | Where-Object { $_.emailaddresspolicyenabled -eq "" } | set-mailcontact -emailaddresspolicyenabled $trueyou could save this to a .ps1 file and run it in a scheduleRegardsM

I would like to add that I also believe this is unacceptable. So Basically upgrading to Exchange 2007 in 2009 has removed functionality for all of us. I have an idea. FIX IT!. -Chris
